Wibaux’s origins

Pierre Wibaux is born in Roubaix on January 12, 1858. He is the son of Achille Wibaux and of Cécile Vernier.

The Wibaux is a long-established family from Roubaix. They were comfortable peasants during the 18th; one of them (Pierre) even managed to become échevin de Roubaix. They used to live in the ferme de la Mousserie.

His grandfather, Désiré Joseph Wibaux (born 1787) founded a weaving company, Etablissements Désiré Wibaux-Florin in 1810, which eventually expanded on a cotton spinning. His father, Achille Wibaux, associated with his two brothers, then succeeded his own father as head of the company and he is the first to bring a mechanic weaver from Saint-Etienne in 1846.

Achille had three son, including Joseph, who succeeded to his father (died 1904) until his death in 1945, and Pierre, who decided to break away from the family business.
